Con Air

OMG!!!!

I have only recently watched this film but this scene i could not have laughed harder i had to watch it over and over specially when Nicholas Cage- 'Poe' says "put the bunny back in the box," and "Now why couldn't you just av' put the bunny in the box"
ha so comical this film was brilliant and one of Cages best he showed real character in some of his films i feel he plays the same old characters but in this i felt him come out and explore this new character and really believe it was him.

I have recently watched Gangs of New York on my boyfriends new 40" Full HD 1080p which by the way is amazing to watch it makes such a difference i couldn't believe it, it is like i was filming pah i wish!!! Anyway back on track i saw this scene and thought the sots of the knives was brilliant, this is the way i want to start shooting and editing by having the better clips to join and thinking before hand about the shots i will need to make this take place for example i wish in my Robin hood i would have got shots of him showing his weapons with some better shots such as close ups and camera covering the weapons!

Final piece of robin hood!

Well, we presented our final piece of Robin Hood to Deb and Danny! I wasn't as satisfied with the final piece as i thought i would have been as the director. The sound quality wasn't repaired which i was dreading happening because it was a large part as it was our main audio, this involved it switching from mono to stereo. This would definately be something i would look further int next time to correct but i understand as a director if i was working for a client that would not be acceptable! This has really shook me up and made me realise that pieces that i think ok that will do wont do for clients i may be working for in the future, also realising im in my second year and i have only just had this epiphany isn't good enough i need to buckle up and set my standards for my work higher!

Single-Camera Video Production By Robert b. Musburger

The Book i chose was 'Single-Camera Video Production By Robert b. Musburger', the paragraph that i chose to read was 'The Editing Function'.

'Most editors believe the truly creative portion of video production takes place in the editing room, and many directors and producers agree. Video editing is a function that requires a combination of technical and aesthetic knowledge and unlimited patience', 'A good editor knows the limits of the equipment and can use those limits without creating technical problems.', 'Editing is often a long, tedious process that stretches even the most patient people to their limit.'

This relates to me as i believe editing is one of the biggest jobs in media and one that recieves the most pressure, if i was a producer or director i would be relying on the editor to give me what i have invisaged and described to him. I agree with the quote 'Editing is often a long, tedious process'. I like the idea that he explains that even the most patient people can get stressed and wokred to their limit, this makes me feel better about the wokr i do and how stressed and worked up i can get, and wonder if what im doing is worthwhile, btu to know that other people feel this too even the best editors is great.

The Tale Of Robin Hood

This is our Draft of our Fictional Interview. We interview Tony Rotheram who plays the character of Robin Hood for the Robin Hood Centre!

Holding Patterns

We were set a task by jules to create a Storyboard and short film from a speechless script! this is my group and my interpertation of the script. I wasn't as pleased with the pixel quality as we exported on quicktime and wasnt that pleased with the outcome! but the ideas we had i thought were good.

We adapted our idea for the Shot Design and decided to use the idea of Anorexia and to show how the girl is feelin on the inside by showing it on the outside. for example the bruising on her face and the mess she is in and using the different things around her shows she has all her comforts around her but stil she cannot feel safe and ok. she also is centred in the middle of the piece which will how isolated and little she is and so frail!

The shooting went really well and we were able to get the whole thing in the first shooting. we managed to change the lights around to make a different ambience, we managed to create an eerie blair witch type effect. We have yet to put the video onto youtube but i have some of the stills from the shoot.

Design One Shot- Deb

Sherri wrote this brief description to show our genre of our One Shot Design.

The the genre we have chosen to convey is Horror. Our character will reflect attributes of a stereotypical bad guy in a horror movie yet we have built a twist on our story as the emotion of the character we are conveying is Terror. This is due to our story being that the bad guy is infact scared of something/someone and is infact the victim in this scenario. We will attempt to make the camera the character of intimidation. A sort of Evil vs Evil??
We will be going for a dark, simple style to bring focus to the subject and the subject only. Lighting will be used to help achieve the mood. We will use a back light out of shot and another light on the right side of the subject to achieve depth. Our aim is to make the subject look evil and important yet as the shot continues the audience come to realise this is not the case.
For the actual camera shot we will be using movement. The camera will begin at a long mid shot of the subject. Using tracks, the camera will slowly move forward revealing more detail of the character. When the camera reaches an extreme close up this will reveal terror on the subjects face. The camera will then hook to the left at a faster pace creating a cliff hanger yet revealing that there was a behind camera character involed in the scene.
To go with the simplistic approach the character will be wearing simple clothing yet with a hood up to disguise his identity slighty so not to convey a vulnerable character. The subject will have a slightly distorted look about his face such as scars and bruises. This will inform our audience that our character is not any normal person.mary for our One shot Design just so you can get the idea of our genre.

Audio Visual

Firstly I began by listening to the audio of this clip 'Beaches'. My first thoughts were that it was in a hospital as you could here the sound of a heart machine and slow, jerking breathing, there are two women there, one that was ill and the other maybe a visitor, the visitor says "Hill, Hill" which i would asume is the name of the patient. The patient says in a deep heavy beathing voice "hi, i waited for you" slow music then begins which portrays sadness, the words 'I waited for you' indicate to me that she has held on and not let go to die yet (sounds as if crying), she says 'she wants to go' which also indicates that she wants to die. When watching the clip without audio i saw a different scenario, the shot is clever as it shows us the side profile of the woman who looks very ill and the front profile of the visitor this gives a full view of the two main characters and shows also that these two people are close, it also shows that the 'visitor' could be more powerful and a bigger character than the ill woman. the shot goes onto just the 'visitors' face and you can see from this shot that she loves the other woman very much and is deeply upset at what is happening she looks sad but comforting, this tells me that they are very close friends or maybe even relatives. The focus turns onto the ill womans face, she looks very ill and then when she realises who is there we see how happy she is to see this person which indicates also how close these two women are. I think this woman could be dying as she looks like she is having trouble breathing as her chest is jerking, the visitor looks as if she could be giving some bad news. When putting the Audio and visual together i realise that the woman doesnt want to die she wants to get out of the hospital and she is not being given bad news but just telling her friend she doesnt want to die in hospital.

My Identities Report

Identities
Evaluation Report

The Brief set for this Identities Module asked us to choose between three Identity Options: 1) Nottingham Trent Multimedia BA/BSc Course, 2) Trent Media, 3) E Stings 4, and to create a Identity Package for one of the above.
As an individual we had to Research, Design and Produce a corporate Identity Package, which could be used by a client in the real world.
I chose to Design and create a Multimedia Course Identity Package (option 1).
My Original and only Idea was to create a package that would be presented to Prospective students on Nottingham Trent University Open Days, so students would come along still unsure, see the posters for the Multimedia course decide to go along to talk and there my AV would be shown as a virtual tour, the students would still like to know more and would be able to go and get that information from my website.
The original Multimedia identity was already established throughout the Multimedia Course such as the website and the logo, so therefore I had to re-create these. I also chose to produce a short AV that could be shown to Prospective students on an open day as a virtual tour of the Course and the Learning areas. I would also design and create a poster and logo for the open day.
The first deadline was to deliver a Design Board Presentation that would inform the listener about your intended package and the methods that would be used, to produce a schedule that would be kept too, and files and footage of your ideas.
Firstly I made myself a time schedule so that my work could be spread along each week and I could give myself longer to work on my website as this would be my bigger challenge. I then designed a basic layout on Dreamweaver for my webpage which I found incredibly hard as I have only used this in Simons Seminars (www.intranetjournal.com), I put in place holders for the writing, pictures and logos, and added the links to each page as I had a homepage, prospective student page, first year page, second year page and a third year page. I had originally decided to have a background of the islands of the earth on to show multimedia is worldwide and the lettering was purple and I had no real order to the font. My logo was of the earth and had MM in purple falling off the world. I designed my poster to the same layout as my webpage and had similar information about the 1st, 2nd, 3rd years and to have the same logo imprinted on it, I presented this with sketches and drawings, I should have designed them on photoshop and put in place holders for the content as this was not clear for my assessors as they wouldn’t have been able to visualise the poster or webpage without the correct layout or font. My AV I designed using stills as I originally decided to use stills in my AV, I also had a narrative to go with the AV, which I wrote below the stills on the design board, my AV was designed to show students the Multimedia Course and what it entails.
I produced my Initial Ideas to Jules and Deborah I got some good feedback about how I could improve my Ideas, such as I would need to make the writing on my poster and webpage clearer, to make it stand out so it would be legible for Prospective students. Also I was asked to think about the background of my poster and webpage, as it was very busy. So I re-arranged my poster and webpage layout by creating a space, night sky background using a blue gradient I then added a few yellow dots with a thin brush for stars and used the smudger brush to create a distant look.
I changed the content on my poster, as I believed with less information but just the core details this would enable the readers to be a lot more intrigued about what the subject entails. I used Arial Narrow lettering for my poster and webpage, as this is easily legible writing, also I changed the layout so that the lettering was in line with each other and gave the poster a more professional look.
I found difficulty when after designing my website the logos and pictures which had been designed in Photoshop wouldn’t appear when hosted, I later found that this was due to me not updating my files when finishing changes and so they were just keeping the original files so I had to rename and re-link my new files.
I had a few problems with my logo as I couldn’t find the right colours or brushes to create this as I have not long since been using Photoshop, but after using the tutorials on the web (www.tutorialized.com/) and a few trial runs it became a lot more simple and came natural. The best technique I found was to use the smudging brush as it made everything blend and not have an outline or a definite line. I used the colour green which I had also used for the web page and the Logo as it kept the neutral and earthy tones and the world theme, I made my Logo into only a quarter of the world instead of the original full shape as this would not distract readers from the content and core information. I changed the multimedia lettering on the logo as the original was too fussy and it needed to be simple so the world could be seen also, I kept the same colour lettering as the poster and webpage as this then tied it all together as a whole package. I did change the lettering type to Bauhaus 93, as I still wanted the Logo to look different to the information lettering.
The Nottingham Trent Logo was also difficult as I copied and pasted from the Nottingham Trent Website (http://www.ntu.ac.uk/) had a white background from the page I had copied n pasted it from, here I couldn’t find a solution until I spoke to Toby from my course who had, had the same problem he told me that I needed to copy and paste just the outline by going to select and colour range and pressing midtones copy and paste it to where you want it and then do this again with the other outline then just rearrange the two so they fit together perfectly this then took the outline without the background.
I think the redesign of the logo, poster and web layout was a good idea as now they are all legible, blend together and the design and layout is a lot more aesthetically pleasing than my original idea.
My AV I designed on A1 Design Board with stills from my digital camera and drawings. I designed it to portray the University life inside the Course and out as it said in the brief “the course wont get in the way of the students interests”. I used stills of the outside and inside such as the lecture theatres, I also had stills of friends and the entrance to the Waverley Building. When I began my AV my original idea was to have a narrative voice over but I changed this as I thought it wouldn’t appeal to Prospective Students who are sitting through it on an open day as they may become tired of being told what is where and who is who, so I decided to create a real University life feel using one of the first songs I heard at university which gets me excited and interested every time I have heard it, ‘Put your Hands Up for Detroit’ by Fedde le Grand.
When I came to take the stills I also decided I wanted to use film instead as this would also create more of a virtual tour for the audience, so I began by filming the outside from a distance the Waverley Building, I filmed closer and got a really good shot from under a tree with the leaves falling over the top of the camera. I took many of up and down the outside of the Building and the entrance, I shot the lecture theatres, seminar rooms, recording booths, computer suites and editing suites. I shot my halls to show how the students could be living and the friends they will make.
I edited the shots to the beats in the music making each no longer than 3 seconds so each clip moved on the switch in beat. I added effects such as the slow down effect on a few to give a longer look to a shot, on door shots I added the effect Circle Splash Distortion as it made the entrance look more desirable, I used N-Square on the recording booths as this made them look a lot more interesting than the original. I had the logo on the beginning and the poster asking the question at the end as this also ties the package together nicely. I kept the same lettering and colouring as the logo from my poster, I decided instead of having no voice over at all I would use subtitles as this kept the audience interested but also gave them the information needed.
After presenting my final ideas to Jules I realised some of my mistakes and things I could of improved on such I spelt Animator wrong on my poster which was also on my AV, the layout of the Trent Logo should have been centered, I could have developed my website further by adding my AV onto I didn’t do this as I thought I would have many problems with this as I did have with the logos and pictures. I think if I could change anything about my identity package it would be my AV as I would have liked to create my own music instead, but I still think the music I chose worked well and gave a younger effect. If I had of had more time I would of liked to design and make a key ring and pencils for handouts for the Prospective Students, but with the amount of work I had set myself with not a lot of experience I didn’t think I would be able to handle that amount of work. Altogether I am pleased with the work I have created and shown myself what level of work I can create, I had not used Dream weaver before university and now I can say I have a clear understanding of how to use it, I have developed my skills on Photoshop as now I can draw and have learnt a lot more about what each brush is for. I am very pleased with this project and I am eagerly awaiting my next challenge.

The Grilling

HAHA not at all a grilling, but i tell you what waiting outside that room is been one of my most nervous experiences ever!!! but when i went in it was quite chilled altho my hands was shakin to the max! jooles helped he asked me if i was nervous i wanted to say "a HELLLLL YESS"! haha but obviously i just said "yes i am" haha i did my presentation and everything worked and went well it may have gone a little to fast but other than that it went quite well! Jooles said he liked my AV and said yes when i said i wanted to take Audio Visual as my pathway next year!! He pointed out that i had made a spelling mistake on my Poster (schoolboy error) ha, and that he wished i had made my trent logo abit more inline with the other lettering. He really liked my world and why i chose to use the world (multimedia is worldwide) he said it looked also like an egg before it has formed, which he liked! He praised my Av also but wished i had put it onto my Web, but this would have proven difficult for me to do. so all in all im quite happy with my presentation hehe :)

yoho

hey well im going slowly but surely but with a lil rush on me now hehe!!! im gettin there!! my poster as you can see is now done!! ive designed the whole website its just getting it to go on as its seeming not to show the pictures! i went to a surgery and i got told i had to change the coding for them and try renaming them all!!! this stil did not work but then i found i had a (/) in where it shouldnt be lol so simple yet so hard to find the problem haha but now im quite happy haha!!

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Righty tighty now i have decided to chage the web and the Av to have the same layout and colours and font to the poster then this all should tie in im also goin to add the logo onto the web and Av, then this should all be consistant! yay! im gettin excited now cos its lookin as if the poster is nearenuf done, the av im goin to totally leave til last as this is the easiest of the three the web i am also doing at the same time as my poster but i had to sort out the logo as this is going into all three so decided may aswel do they poster while im at it and to be honest its lookin pretty proffesional lol, one prob is i cant get it to bloody upload on here to show u all but o well im sure ull see soon enough!!!!

HAHAHA got it on for you guys but this is the only way lol and its back to front o well you can see it kinda!

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

Right i have now re-designed my logo and have decided to use half of a world instead of a whole one and to use the writting at the side instead of hanging off ive also decided to change the background instead of having all the other colours as they r destracting i am going to use a night sky kinda theme!!! i got some good feedback from the presentation n some constructive critism which is good, im glad i didnt get laid into like some other ppl. but to be honest some of the others had ideas that seemed to be abit extravagant that they wouldnt be able to achieve due to costing and other things id like to think mine is achieveable and simple but still efficient!! we shall see! haha lol
